Here’s Some Stuff I Bought

I was in a rainbow sort of mood when I was in Halifax; can you tell? Then again, when am I not in a rainbow sort of mood?

rainbowy and other yarn

The Celestial Merino Dream post-winding, some Fleece Artist odds and ends, Twilley’s Freedom Wool, Opal, and some Caron Watercolors floss.

When you add in the books, magazines, and cross stitch patterns, the new acquisitions take up even more room.

new additions to the stash

The cross stitch patterns are The Cape Breton Tartan Chart Pack from Foxberry Cottage, a tiny Tinkerbell kit by Janlynn, Bold Spirits Toucans and Three Musketeers designs by True Colors, and a Christmas stocking pattern with a kitten on it from Dimensions. The novels on the right side are some of Monica Ferris’s Needlecraft Mysteries. I would like to point out that I got a discount on all of the books pictured here. Please ignore the fact that I did not get a discount on the magazines. I also bought a kids’ little pegboard loom at Wal-Mart for $4.47, to play around with, but I forgot to put it in the picture.

I am working extra hours for the next few weeks, so I have all this stuff and absolutely no free time. Bah, humbug. Speaking of work, I will be able to get to Halifax on August 7 to see Stephanie Pearl-McPhee on her book tour, but where the plan hits a snag is I haven’t yet figured out how I’m going to get back to Saint John by eleven the next morning to make it to work on time. Or, rather, I can’t figure out how I’m going to get from Halifax to the New Brunswick border so my boyfriend can pick me up there and take me back to Saint John, because he’s willing to rent a car and drive at least that far. Ah, what’s life without a few wrinkles?

Nice haul! I truly can’t wait until my yarn-buying diet is over, and then I can go back to buying lots of delicious yarns to show off too. :D

It’s so cool that you’re going to go see Yarn Harlot in person! I wish I could tag along, but I’m working that day, and wouldn’t have the money anyway. :/ We really need to badger her into coming to Saint John at some point!

Well, I don’t know that I’m going to see the Yarn Harlot in person. I can get there, but I still can’t get back. That’s a problem. I still need to find a drive partway back that night. If I am able to go, though, I can certainly get a book signed for you.

I really have no time to play with my lovely new acquisitions, though. Today is my busiest day this week; I was working from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the bookstore, and I’ll be working at the call centre from 7:00 p.m. to midnight.

Holy crap, how can you handle having two jobs at once? I managed that for all of a month once, and it drove me out of my mind!

Thankee so much for the offer! If you can go, I’d be eternally grateful, and give you many gifts of delicious yarn!

Well, I don’t usually work both jobs in the same day. I’m just doing that for a while this summer, because when a full time bookstore staff member is on vacation, I work nearly full time hours there. Usually I work about a 35-hour week between the two jobs, like most people do with one job, but right now I’m working about a 50-hour week. I’m still putting in as many hours as I can at the call centre, because they are so accommodating about arranging my schedule around my other job. I really appreciate that about them.

When does your yarn diet end? ‘Cause I was on the East side today, and Bernat has a bunch of new yarns blending natural fibers with acrylics. There are some at Michaels and Wal-Mart. Michaels also has the new Soy Wool Solids. Although I’m still ticked that I can’t get Soy Wool Stripes in green anywhere in town. (No, I didn’t buy any of the new yarns. The student loan people wouldn’t like it if I bought yarn instead of paying them. I just needed some embroidery floss. Floss is cheap.)

When I worked two jobs at once, I was only working about 30 hours between them, but the hassle of working at two different places, not to mention having to give them both my schedule for the other so I didn’t get conflicting shifts, made it harder than working even a 40-hour week at one job. I don’t think I’ll ever do that again unless I’m really desperate for cash, and I can’t imagine needing money that badly.

Yarn diet ends at the end of September, and the way my paycheques have been going, that’s also when I’ll probably be able to afford some yarn, too. :/ I have my eye on some Kroy sock yarn at Michaels, too, and I need quite a few balls of Paton’s merino yarn to make a Weasley sweater for Rachel this Christmas.

That reminds me, is there anything you’d like me to knit for your Christmas present, so I can get a head start on it? :D
