It Really Does Exist

The seed stitch scarf I made in Patons SWS exists, that is. I used most of two balls of the Natural Earth colourway and it’s 15 stitches to a row on 9-mm needles. I didn’t measure it, but I’ll estimate it at approximately five-and-a-half feet long and five inches wide.

It’s ironic that it took forever before I put pictures up because I wanted to block it first, but the parts that needed blocking are not visible in the photo. The ends needed to be a bit squarer, since they were a little bit sloppy, but they look better now, so I am pleased. The ends are green — below the green you can just see near the bottom of the picture, there’s rust and then more green — so the green and rust are more prominent in the scarf than it would seem from this photo.

I didn’t really have time to work on my Pooh Bear cross stitch on the weekend because I was too busy. Busy in a good way, though — my boyfriend and I went to two hockey games (where we saw KJ), went to a movie, and hung out with friends. I worked on Pooh Bear today, though.

Pooh Bear needs backstitching. And a face.

Next I’ve got to break out the black floss to do a nose (one stitch), two eyes (two French knots), and all the backstitching. I think I’m going to start a larger cross stitch project when I’m finished. I do have one. Actually, I have two, but one is way too hard for me. I bought it a couple of years ago at the dollar store, but it’s awfully nice for something that was at the dollar store. I bought the most complicated kit there to get the most bang for my buck, and in retrospect, this was really stupid.

KJ, if you do wind up reading this, then I am tagging you to write six weird things about yourself, as Ria tagged me.

Nice scarf. I’m impressed you have the patience to seedstitch a whole scarf. That’s such a nice SWS colorway, I’ll have to try it one of these days.

I like how the colours stripe. It must have fairly long colours stripes in the yarn to do that, huh? (Never used it before, but it’s one I’d sure like to try.)

Figures that the weather’s getting warmer now, and we won’t need scarves for very much longer! (Not that I’m complaining about that. I hate the cold.)

This was on big enough needles so that it really didn’t require a lot of patience. I really like working with SWS, but there can be a wide variation of colour even within the same dye lot, so you have to be careful when you buy multiple balls that they really do match each other exactly. That’s not so bad — the truly annoying thing is that there will often be a knot in it, which complicates things when there are such gradual stripes of colour.

I’m actually sending this scarf to someone in Edmonton, but it seems to be warming up there now, too.
