Today’s Colours
The seed stitch scarf in earth tones is on the bed, blocking, in the hopes that this will make its ends look neater. We shall see. The bedspread is bright red, which clashes horribly with earth tones, which is just another reason to look forward to unpinning it.
The Winnie-the-Pooh cross stitch currently resembles nothing so much as a yellow blob. It’s so easy that it would be boring if I didn’t manage to miscount and have to carefully unpick stitches. See, my brain and my hands know when I am getting bored and they decide to shake things up a little to unbore me. Thanks, guys, but you really shouldn’t have!
The swatch I am knitting is a deep turquoise, I guess sort of a teal. Turquoise makes me happy.
Ria tagged me to do the Six Weird Things About Me meme, so here are six weird things about me:
- I once set my hair on fire while decorating an Easter egg. I was holding my kistka in a candle flame to melt the wax, and I guess I leaned too close.
- My family used to have a myna bird named Uncle Feather because my brother wanted one after he read Superfudge by Judy Blume.
- I took a university course on Bob Dylan. It was a full year course; the first term focused on 1960s literature and the second term focused on Bob Dylan’s lyrics.
- Ever since preschool, I had to keep my crayons in “rainbow order” or it would bother me that they were not in their proper places. You know, red orange yellow green blue indigo violet. I put pink before all of these, and white, brown, gray, and black after. I still do this with art supplies and lots of other things.
- I buy Disney World guidebooks and obsessively visit web sites about Disney theme parks, imagining that I am going to make a trip to a Disney theme park soon, when I so am not because I am so broke. One of my favourite blogs is EPCOT Central, which is about what Disney is doing wrong with
EPCOT CenterEpcot and suggests how they can fix it to make it as great as it used to be. (My first visit to EPCOT Center was in 1988, and hell yeah, it was cool then.) I also love Yesterland, a site about extinct Disneyland attractions, its Disney World counterpart Walt Dated World, the comprehensive AllEarsNet, and any site that has photos of Tokyo DisneySea, because that park is freakin’ gorgeous. - I saw that both Ria and Red Crochet had mentioned liking to play Final Fantasy on their weird things list, and I was thinking, Huh? That’s not a weird thing! Everybody likes to play Final Fantasy! And basically everyone I know likes to play video games in general, except for my boyfriend and my dad. (I think they are weird for not playing video games.) I am old-school when it comes to video games. I like retro NES and SNES stuff and some arcade games from before that, like Galaga. I am so old-school that this is the Game Boy Advance SP I own:

I just want to get all the earlier Mario games and all the earlier Final Fantasy games and a Namco Museum game with Galaga for it, and then I will be able to die happy.
Also, art from old video games adapts so well to cross stitch. One pixel = one stitch. Easy peasy. It can be adapted to knitting, too, of course, but making a cross stitch chart from 8-bit pixel art is completely brainless.
I would tag somebody, but only Ria reads this regularly, so if anybody else reads this entry and feels like listing six weird things about themselves on their blog, by all means, please do so.

Oh man, that is one kick-ass SP! I want it! XD
I know I’ve seen cross-stitch patterns out there for the sprites from FF1, but I can’t remember where I found them. :/

There are some patterns here, actually:

I’d kind of like to do Rydia from FFIV sometime, since my user name on Craftster is Rydia (although I’ve only posted there, like, eight times), but since she’s 16-bit rather than 8-bit, she has twelve colours in such a small space and is more complicated than the FFI characters. Plus, I’d have to figure out the corresponding floss colours. Maybe someday.

Love that gameboy. Wish I had a handheld game; that way I could play videogames in bed.
